Nyamwamba 9.2MW run-of-river hydropower project is located in the Kasese District in Southwestern Uganda.
SAEMS was engaged in the project from its conceptual stage, managing to secure the power purchase agreement (PPA) on behalf of Africa EMS Nyamwamba Ltd. SAEMS was also awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract which commenced in January of 2018. This hydropower plant is connected to the Ugandan national power grid via a 22.2km long transmission line terminating at the Nkenda substation.
The Nyamwamba project managed to secure a GetFit Premium Payment Package within a record timeframe for the programme. SAEMS’ professional conduct as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor was a major contributing factor to this success of the Nyamwamba hydropower plant. The project lenders FMO were supported by WSP Australia as their technical advisory.
Design review, construction quality, environmental, occupational health & safety, public safety and social governance surveillance was conducted by WSP Australia with Multiconsultant Norway as the GetFit Uganda programme’s implementation consultant. It is noteworthy to mention that SAEMS was awarded the Best Employer in 2018 by the Ugandan National Social Fund (NSSF).
Since its commissioning in 2018, the Nyamwamba hyropower plant has been operated and maintained (O&M) by SEAMS Engineering Ltd as the preferred O&M partner to Africa EMS Nyamwamba Ltd.
