The primary objective was the development of hydropower projects in Sri Lanka.
Commencing in 2007, within 10 years as a developer SAEMS grew its portfolio to 11 companies and 14 operational projects totaling 77MW in Uganda and Sri Lanka. With an employee base of 350+ personnel SAEMS developed the full range of expertise to include construction and O&M.
SAEMS has worked on projects with heads from 6m – 330m with capacities from 1.2MW to 330MW. Hydropower projects ranging from 1.2MW – 18MW in capacity with a head range from 6m – 330m at the extremes. Has worked with EM equipment installation, O&M and repair of Gilkes, WKV, Andritz, Zhejiang, JinLun, VST, Global Hydro and Voith Siemens.
In September 2014 SAEMS divested its Sri Lankan hydropower portfolio to focus on its Ugandan Operations. In late 2015, through the GetFit Uganda program, the 9.2MW Nyamwamba-I project engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract was awarded to SAEMS by Africa EMS Pvt Ltd. The project was completed on time and budget.
In 2019 the Uganda Operational hydro power portfolio was divested. SAEMS thereafter focussed on new being a cost-effective provider for construction, installation, O&M and repair of hydropower projects.
SAEMS have not only successfully delivered on Cleaner Development Mechanism certified projects but also enjoy ISO 9001 quality management system (QMS) and ISO 45001 occupational health and safety (OHS) certification for its operation and maintenance (O&M) systems.

uganda
An Accountant by profession, Charles commenced his career with the Mpanga 18MW hydro as its project coordinator. For the past 9 years he has cultivated extensive contacts across the Ugandan energy sector.
He also represents the Company and negotiates with on-ground stakeholders. He also obtains all statutory approvals up to PPA. All legal matters are also coordinated by Charles.
Sri Lanka
Possesses Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree with First Class honours in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Master of Engineering/Post Graduate Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
In a career spanning over 25 years, Mr Pathiraja has served in a Managerial capacity serving the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), first in Operations, Instrumentation & control Engineer at Kotmale Power Station and then progressing to Area Electrical Engineer, responsible for over 100,000 consumer accounts. He thereafter entered the Mini Hydropower Sector and has 14 years’ experience in designing, installing and maintaining all Electrical items of over 20 hydro projects.
Sri Lanka
A Charted Civil and Structural Engineer by profession, who has over 40 years of experience in hydropower and irrigation. He began his career with "Lewis & Divivier" in the UK and thereafter worked in Nigeria for the Norway arme of Noconsult.
After returning to Sri Lanka, he designed 18 Hydro projects including that of Mpanga, Nyamwamba, and Nyamwamba II in Uganda.
Uganda
Rasanga is an Environmental Specialist with more than Twenty years’ experience and specializes in the field of Environment Safeguard, with a focus on environmental Engineering in hydropower. He has worked on hydropower, community water supply and disaster management projects in Uganda and Sri Lanka.
Rasanga is an entry level GIS Analyst. In addition, he is eligible to obtain IRCA auditor certification under ISO 45001: Occupational Health and Safety Management System. Further, he is a member of Young Scientists Forum of Sri Lanka.
Rasanga is a graduate chemist and an Associate member of the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon. He obtained his Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Management from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
Kenya
Dhammike is a Civil and Constriction Engineer who has immense experience in hydropower, water supply, roads and bridges sectors in East Africa, South Asia and in Turkey.
Over 20 years of experience and successfully completed EPC projects under the FIDIC contracts.
uganda
ACA (Sri Lanka), BBA (Acc) Sp.
A young professional Chartered Accountant who has more than 10 years of industry experience in Multinational companies including AECOM which is one of a pioneer in the construction industry. Kosala’s notable milestone engagement was with CHEC- Port City Colombo, Shangri La-Colombo, and ITC Colombo One. She was awarded the best performer of the year many times and recognised for cost-saving initiatives in South East Asia.
Kosala received her first degree in BBA (Accounting) Special from the University of Colombo. Then she was affiliated with the professional body of ACA (Sri Lanka).
uganda
An Electrical Engineer with over 10 years experience in hydropower development, operation and maintenance. Joined SAEMS in 2016 as an Electrical Engineer and presently working as the Operation and Maintenance Manager.
Possesses degrees in Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and in Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Associate member of IESL and ECSL Sri Lanka.
